Conscious Route Interview

Hi how you doing? Introduce yourself to the readers of
Yes yes Conscious Route, You Sonix records, Edinburgh city, Scotland, doing good.

So tell us about your latest release and where people can get it.
Latest release called Real World LP drops the 14.08.2012 you can get it on the digi, on the download blam

This is a tough question, and I know some people like to remain humble, but if you had to give a reason why you think people should check your music, what would you say?
It’s honest and Real not trying to be anything it’s not plus it’s different to many things you hear in the mix of ancients and music.

Out of all the songs you have released or been involved with, which song would you say was the popular? What is your number one track?
Dealer Stealer Fugazirum was repped 1xtra, recently I done a commercial style track called “High Tip” with Master System, that got Air play on two station in England one International Station and lots of love online. The Meeting off the last release “flight of the Ambitious “with fellow label Blasfima Sinna gets a lot love especially live every one bounces and takes notice when that track drops

In the whole process involved in making music which do you think is the most exciting?
Hard to say I think having an image of how you want the song to be recording the song and it being how I pictured. Not sure if that’s answer your question? Just I love all the processes equally I find it hard to go that one the best.

When your recording what is the vibe like in your studio, do you have mood that helps you create?
Relaxed and easy but I guess I have the energy of a child hey, I’m cocky in the booth and I lay shit like couple takes. On an off day, if I got like 20 to 24 bar verse and I can’t lay in one, I lay it in parts, I don’t think it positive to be to hard on myself and most time it sounds like one take. After I learn it and bring it so heavy live that peeps just DAM!

How do you like your production, do you prefer original played beats or more sampled based production?
I like my production not to slick but good, I like a bit rawness a bit organic, music that effects the emotions. As for Sampled or played I work with producer that do both and I think it just down to the producer really and their ability to work what they do, some I really can’t separate these days technologies so good home produced stuff just gets better and better.

What producers do you work with and are there any producers you’d like to work with?
I working a lot with Strut Master System, Toni Smoke Shadow People, Sean L Paralectic Univeres, Scant Squad, I dig minds done beats for this album. There more hey Mikey Blues, DJ Pryzmat, Dj Sonny Perfect Practice. Peeps I like to, well should be doing something soon with Nasty P soon, there a Glasgow producer Konchis who I like to work with, I’d like to work with Chemo again I worked with him when he first started out. Beat Butcher I know him through Chemo he doing shit for Mobb Deep and all that now his big in uk and states and his beats are ill..

The Hip-Hop scene is really spilt between the mainstream and underground, do you think this makes it harder to get noticed by so many different types of rap fans?
I think the uk scene is split in the underground let alone the mainstream peeps listen to their crew and couple mates in their city they don’t support other city and movements I think if people learned to network instead having their head up the arse the industry and fan bases would be stronger, real insecure shit there enough for everyone as far as people to show your music love, don’t get tripping you’re going to lose fans by promoting other artist and networking, it also helps your style and fan base to grow if you network a lot.

A lot of artists have some sort of free download project. Do you think doing these kind of releases helps or hinders sales on iTunes?
I think it helps to get people listening to the music pull them in with the freebies then tag it because it comes a time in a man’s life that he needs to eat off it and that won’t happen if you don’t value your music. I will be doing the odd free thing but mainly now it’s business.

Image seems everything these days, so lets talk about your artwork. Do you come up with concept or does your designer do it?
Tell us more about who done the cover to your latest release. Yeah well I told the dude who done my art work the idea or concept of the album and that I wanted something that reflected the Real World. Calum Carr went away, came back with a few concepts I picked the one I most felt. I feel that each pocket as in the art the production should be left to the artist in that section as in my arts the writing and probably structure the rest is for others to enjoy the art and creativity I try not to be to controlling in other expression it doesn’t bring out the best hey..

Even though You Tube is on-line TV Station, it seems to also be the place where most people go to listen to music. Do you think putting songs up with an artwork image or photo is detrimental to your full music videos?
I always go with the philosophy something better than nothing but still you know that a visual video will certainly get more hits than a picture for sure.

Do you have anything on You Tube or you own Channel?
Lots live stuff mainly, one recent video which I wrote and directed myself called “Envy Change” off the Flight of the Ambitious E.p it’s cool cost nothing and the guy Gregor Scott from Scotstyle done a good job for young upcoming music video and documentary film maker.

Have you ever done anything for any DVD or on-line TV channels?
Any freestyles or interviews on-line to check out that are recent? Unfortunately not yet but I hope with this album I will get more exposure for that type of thing like I say youtube there some bits..

Okay before you go is there anybody you’d like to thank or anybody you’d like to shout out?
